leftists on twitter are so mad at this guy for pointing out something that is fundamental to economic organization under modern imperialism lol. imperialist powers take over other nations economies, transform them to be primarily focused on key commodities for export and destroy the rest of their markets for other goods so they depend on selling these specific few commodities to the rest of the world. do you think that under a socialist government people in these countries would want to continue economies based on export of one thing or reorganize their economy to be more self sufficient and actually serve the people directly involved in it. everyone loves to point out stuff like the CIA’s involvement in the coup in guatemala but lose their shit if you point out the implications in their daily american life

I am more than willing to give up my access to luxury commodities such as bananas, chocolate, and coffee, if it means reducing exploitation.

Every tabletop system I've ever played was better than D&D

D&Ds cultural niche is to get new people interested in tabletop. It's only upwards from here.

this is true but also D&D sucks as an introduction to tabletop. it's genuinely one of the worst possible games a player could start with. it:

  • is extremely expensive, expecting you to buy three separate $30 rulebooks and pay a subscription fee if you want the online bookkeeping service
  • offers no meaningful support to GMs whatsoever, giving them a huge workload and making everyone who starts with D&D permanently wary of any facilitator role in any other game ever.
  • has a horribe play culture stretching back decades that heavily discourages any frank out-of-character discussions about what the table wants from the game as 'metagaming'
  • as of 5e, straight-up lies about what it is and contains ('three pillars' is a crock of horseshit innit)

and all these things not only make D&D a bad game, but they make it an actively detrimental introduction to the hobby, because people who start with D&D interalize all this shit as being true about 'TTRPGS' and so either refuse to approach other TTRPGs or, when they do, approach it with the weight of all this hanging on them

why is explaining a villains sad backstory always taken as an effort toward excusing their actions. why does the conversation need to involve the question of excusing anything rather than just making their present behavior way more interesting by complicating their feelings or their motivations. why is acknowledging complicated feelings or motivations taken as apologism in and of itself. why is everyone so incredibly boring

The ultracatholics on this website aren't actually trying to "debate" you. They think they are trying to save you.

What is actually happening, is they're saying inflammatory things that get strong negative reactions from readers. People yell at them in response. This generates a feeling of being attacked, so they can continue to see themselves as an underdog.

This entire dynamic can be shortcutted by simply blocking them and moving on with your life.

“we live in an uncaring universe” yeah dude and I live in an uncaring house. and I shit in an uncaring toilet. but do you touch an uncaring lover? do you comfort an uncaring child? do you guide to sleep each night a cold and uncaring self?

"In the same way your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings, are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don't, then it doesn't." - Brennan Lee Mulligan, Fantasy High S1E17

Hey guys! The WGA is asking for people to sign a petition aimed against Universal. Treegate isn't the first union busting tactic Universal has tried.

They started a construction project that "just so happens" to block some of the sidewalks and forces picketers to walk in the street. The government told Universal they need to install safety rails to replace the sidewalks. A demand Universal has so far ignored.

Please sign the petition for Universal to install the safety rails and reblog.

Hello Mr. Gaiman,

So SAG-AFTRA posted an article in Variety and in response to the question: “Can I do Cosplay?” They basically said if you’re non-union that you can, but if you are Union you can’t. However, I came across a post on Instagram from Bryan Patrick Stoyle who is a SAG-AFTRA member who is saying that if you’re Union, want to join the Union at any point, or stand in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA in general you shouldn’t cosplay any struck content. As a young (like still in school young) artistic person who loves acting, writing, and creative things in general I don’t want to make myself ineligible for these unions in the future but it seems like everyone is saying a lot of different things, are you able to help clarify at all?

Secondly, if it is true that we can’t cosplay struck content altogether, would Doctor Who be considered part of that? I know it’s a British tv show run by a British company but I feel like I should still check.

Thank you for your time, and sorry for the long ask.

Unless SAG-AFTRA actually put up on their official website that if someone who is not part of SAG cosplays as something that’s part of a struck company they will forever be denied SAG membership (something that seems unlikely to the point of impossibility) I will regard all of this as people getting overexcited and trying to make a point.

SAG-AFTRA rules apply to SAG-AFTRA members.

Doctor Who has been bought/invested in by Disney which is a struck company. But until now it’s been made by the BBC which is not a struck company.

It seems a lot of people have misunderstood the Influencer Agreement. SAG-AFTRA clearly defines Influencer as “popular content creators who have amassed a social media following that they capitalize on by making deals with advertisers to promote brands through the Influencer’s creative content which they distribute through their social media feeds.”

If that doesn’t apply to you, neither do the influencer guidelines about not cosplaying/promoting.

[Image description, text: Good afternoon,

This letter is regarding your vacation two weeks ago, and how you let me babysit Smokey, Oreo, and Jennifer. I'd just like to give you a letter of thanks.

As you know, I'm an old man. You don't see me outside often anymore, as these joints aren't as lively as they used to be. To add to that, two years ago, in the midst of the pandemic, my dad got diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. After his death, I was left alone in my home. I don't have a wife or kids. I could go to sleep one day and never wake up again. Every day is spent just sitting around and wondering what I have done for this world.

Until I met Smokey, Oreo, and Jennnifer.

Your pets are the cutest, funniest, and most troublesome (In a good way, don't worry, they didn't mess up the house too much!) individuals. They gave me the motivation to restart my life again. I started waking up early in the morning. I began to take walks outside with your pets for the first time in years. Every 10 minutes, whenever I felt sad for a second, they would bark or rub against my leg and make me laugh.

The highlight of their stay was when I took them to the park. It was the longest time I've spent outside in a while. It didn't just bring back pet interaction. I also met other people, started talking, and made friends with a handful of fellow human beings. I was so happy to finally be able to talk with friends again, interact with others, and feel like I'm part of the human race.

I realize I sound very existential right now, but I'm telling the truth. It's nice knowing I'm doing something for someone, even if it's my neighbor.

I adopted two dogs soon after. (You may have been hearing noise from my home, pardon them!) I now take regular walks to the park with them and talk with friends I made there. Anyways, I'd just like to say: thank you so much. You brought back meaning to my life. And that's all that matters.

Sincerely,

Robert (P.S. I think it's time for you to mow that lawn, haha!)

I guarantee you the studios are going through every outspoken actor’s files looking for something, anything to discredit them. Ron Perlman is probably undergoing the deepest background check of his life right now, thanks to Bob Iger.

So brace yourself to hear some unsavory shit about your favorite actors in the next few weeks. Some of it might even be true. But that doesn’t change the righteousness of the cause or the truths they speak.

I am begging y'all on my hands and knees to learn to support people’s actions without valorizing them.

Also, think about how often you say something without providing full context and nuance.

Now remember how often actors are put in front of press cameras and expected to answer any questions that are fired at them within tight time limits.

Not every inflammatory soundbite or quote represents a person’s full or current views. To shoot down your allies because of an unrelated instance of “wrong opinion” is foolish at best and actively harmful at worst.

^^^ this is what ‘divide and conquer’ looks like.

& honestly, if you’re not yourself a striking writer/actor/etc then it doesn’t matter much whether you fall for this shit. You’re not a part of this fight. But you can look at it and learn from this. This will happen in your own struggles for your own workers rights. ‘Dig up dirt on the leaders’ is a classic union busting technique. Be ready for it.
